Yup Vulcan, c'est true. Your example is but a puppy compared to what I believe was going on in AB in the 90s. I think close to 1 Billion $ went astray. Because we never have a change of government, no police investigation is commenced as the next crew just sweep (industrial bulldoze) under the rug.
The big problem with professional sports is the privatization of the the profits and socialization of the losses. When things are good, its "Hey, we're just a business who is doing it right and being rewarded by the market." When things are poor, its "Where would this city be without this product? We have had some - Gasp!! Losses - and if the GOVERNMENT doesn't do something about it, well then the GOVERNMENT must hate this city."
That is the concern about a relocation to The Peg or QC. The owners of these franchises will, sooner or later, make a third-generation welfare recipeint look like a piker when it comes to demanding government handouts.
