Unfortunately, just going through the comments sections on these articles, virtually everyone that pays taxes is against this deal, and nobody seems to care about the team. I know as a tax payer, as much as I love the Flames and the NHL, I would be outraged if the city was essentially paying someone to take the team, with tax dollars. This farce has to end. To have a market for any product you need supply and demand. There is virtually NO demand for tis team in Phoenix.
It sucks for fans like yourself, but there is no way this deal is good for the city. Just not enough people care about the team. I look at the pictures of an empty arena, and half of the seats filled by opposing teams fans, and feel for Cities like Quebec, Hamilton, and Winnipeg. They wont be the most succesful franchises in the league, but at least, they could break even.
Phoenix will never, ever, ever, ever break even, and it is just time to cut the losses now for both Glendale and the NHL. This deal reeks of back door cronyism, and if it goes through, I bet someone goes to jail for it one day, when the facts really come out.
I would almost bet, they would make more money, on every aspect of the operation, if they set up an AHL team down there. You would likely have just as many fans in the stands, as only true fans seem to show up anyway, and you salary commitements are cut 90%. Heck, they are already selling seats at AHL prices, and I truly think most people there are so ignorant to the game, they wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the 2 games.
I just think its time to take old Shep behind the barn, and put him out of his misery.
