A few things people should recognize: Canada actually has a higher employment rate than the US (% of people working). Canada has more structural unemployment b/c of things like seasonality, i.e. people who have jobs over the summer but are laid off in the winter. US would have higher unemployment without their massive jail and military populations. Illegal immigrants, who some suggest account for several % of the total US population, are not counted in any statistics. Generally, it is simply not possible to compare the US rate to the Canadian rate and make any sort of conclusion without a whole lot of work.
