In terms of pure touristing travel though, this wat at Angkor is one of my most magical travel memories. I was just in awe of that place. I felt like I had slipped into a Duck Tales adventure or into the Jungle Book. Like seeing what had only ever existed in childhood imagination and fantasy come true in real life.

This was about 4 years ago now I guess.
Angkor Wat is one of those places that I recommend to everyone. It is just so different from anywhere else I've ever been in the world. Actually, Cambodia as a whole sticks out in my mind. The insanity of Phnom Penh, the ubiquity of the Cambodian peoples party, road side baskets of bugs and spiders for eating, the mighty Mekong river and the horror of the Khmer Rouge. There is, quite literally, a missing generation in Cambodia that was decimated by the Khmer Rouge. I was also saluted by many small children assuming I was an American G.I. . . . that took me aback.
