Glendale mayor delves into Phoenix Coyotes, casino, budget at meeting
http://www.azcentral.com/community/g...no-budget.html

Mayor Elaine Scruggs on Tuesday broached the possibility of cutting services or raising taxes to manage the city-owned arena if anchor tenant Phoenix Coyotes leave for Canada.

Those in attendance, many who were longtime residents who have regularly attended the mayor's informal gatherings over the past four years, were given a worksheet to explore the impact of the hockey crisis on the city's budget.

The one-page sheet laid out options for funding Jobing.com Arena should the Coyotes leave, including taking revenue from various city departments such as police, or raising taxes.

"I need your thoughts," Scruggs said. "We may be dealing with this in two to three
weeks. Do you want us to cut expenses or raise revenue?"

Residents in the crowded church focused more on questions about the city's deal with a Coyotes buyer, than finding consensus on alternatives

"We don't know if the bonds will be sold," Scruggs said. "No one knows."
