It makes no difference on a GTI. there is no current or voltage difference between hi and low beams on the xenons on my car. It simply re aims the bulbs. The is a servo that simply raises or lowers the bulbs. The DRLs on my car are the xenon bulbs. All of ourcars with Xenons are like this. Also we are not talking Canadian Tire HID kits. Factory kits and ballasts tend to be just a little more reliable.

I think i understand how projectors and bixenon's work... The servo does not "re aim the bulb" it retracts a shield allowing the light to shoot anywhere, with the shield up it creates a shadow which is why you have a "cutoff"

Are you sure the DRL's are the HID's? regardless if they are Densos or Mahtusitsu ballasts and phillips bulbs you can still run the life of them down by powering them on when they dont need to be. That is why Most OEM Projector HID's have a halogen DRL.

The new Lexus Rx350 is a perfect example, it uses a halogen reflector as the DRL but the low and high beams are controlled by the Bixenon projector with HID's
