Pay particular attention around the 0:15 - 1:00 mark for a demonstration of the use of the day/night tab.

On that web page you will note Step 4: "Look at the dimmer tab on the bottom of the mirror that should only be used at night. During the day, push the tab all the way back. At night, pull the tab forward only if a car with bright headlights is behind you."
So no need to teach your mirrors how to stop reflecting, just teach yourself how to use them.
