Some pictures of a Moose Carcass and the animals that visit it to Scavenge in Banff National Park.

Wolves, Wolverine, Birds, Coyotes etc.
I watched that happen with a moose in summer once and a deer without the insects in winter.

A large bull moose we had watched in our valley for years dropped dead in a grove of trees just off our country road. Since I was the only one who ran or walked that road, I was the guy who noticed the smell and went to investigate. And thereafter periodically.

This large, majestic animal, as the summer progressed, just sank into the gathering grass and shadows, disappearing and revealed only if you were walking through when you happened to step on bones that still had some hair attached.

And now, years later, the bones are bleached and sinking into the soil.

Ashes to ashes.

Finding corpses, always a favourite thing to do on the prairie . . .

Incidentally, the two dogs passed away late last year, only a month apart, from cancer. We will spread their ashes later this summer on the near bluff on the opposite side of the lake. A favourite spot for them.

Ashes to ashes again.
