Hmm, maybe I was unclear. I meant that the indigenous population of Canada has been so thoroughly subjugated. Nenshi touches on that in talking about how Canada is a young country. As one of the biggest cities in the country Calgary is still only 135 years old or so. Basically, Canada's a young immigrant country because the indigenous population was conquered and subjugated as Europeans moved in and the country which has been established since then lacks a dense population and lacks a large population with culture rooted deeply in the locale where they live. That's a big part of what makes Canada a great place for immigration.
