Gentlemen, a question from a not so advanced and not so young computer user. How can I save a video file (e.g. youtube video) on my iMac and then edit it by adding some text, cutting it, reducing it in size and saving the result as a gif file?

Any useful and easy to understand and follow assistance would be very much appreciated.
