I'm glad they chose Metric and Tokyo Police Club. Metric has been around for years and Tokyo Police Club less so, but both represent a different aspect of the Canadian music scene. And obviously aren't that well known despite their successes.

There has been enough of the the old school Canadian acts being featured at large events. And I have no idea why someone would pick the Black Eyed Peas for Grey Cup. And while I'm a huge fan of the Tragically Hip, 50 Mission Cap just doesn't cut it in a game between the Canadiens and the Flames.

This was a great opportunity to feature a different kind of Canadian music. I'm not a huge Metric fan but appreciate their sound (I hear a little Pixies/Veruca Salt in them) and Tokyo Police Club reminds me a little bit of the Cure sped up. I like both bands and have some of their songs on my ipod.

Any of Sam Roberts, Billy Talent, Alexisonfire, Theory of a Deadman, or something in that ilk would have been a great choice.

And I'm thrilled Nickelback wasn't party of the show.
