You'd never see the Superbowl go with an Indie band. In fact the last few years has seen oldies acts dominate the half time show. The median age of the NFL - which is slightly older than the NHL - probably has a lot to do with that. Paul McCartney, Rolling Stones, Prince, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, and The Who, directly preceded the Black Eye Peas this year.

Ok, so the only acceptable option is to get well known classic rock bands? Hogwash. God forbid someone be exposed to something they've never heard of. Older demographics are fairly limited when it comes to music anyways (for the most part) so why bother catering to them. Im not saying you must love Metric but I really dont understand that people are so offended if they haven't heard of a performer. And then they bitch and complain if that well know performer doesn't play their one big hit song. This just doesn't compute with me. The superbowl is hardly a place for great musical performances anyways, so I wouldn't be taking their approach. Big name doesn't mean great event.
