As for the comment about bands that played in garages and dives barely getting by - welcome to the 1996 and the invention of the internet (ok it was around way before but you know what I mean). This isn't 1970, why should a new artist or a garage band for that matter not try to get discovered using uTube and whatever else is available to them. It's stupid not to. Do you really think a band would rather try to make name for themselves by playing in tim buck two's motel pub for 10 years or get discovered by releasing music over uTube.....I thought so.
Anyway, the kids talented. I'm pretty sure there's a reason why every major record label was competing to sign this kid. I don't get why there are people that hate him so much. If you don't like him, don't listen it's as simple as that.
I personally don't like his music at all but I can respect what he's done for himself at such a young age. You can't accomplish what he has without some talent - someone who says otherwise is either jealous or ignorant.

The biggest thing is that these people that are "discovered" on Youtube, don't have their unique sounds and that certainly doesn't get encouraged by the record companies who have these fresh talents that you can mold and create.
so we're getting all of the same sound, the same auto tuned poppy garbage with the same lyrics.
The bands that used to make it big took years to develop and the record companies signed them for their sound and their fan base.
The youtube generation is the king of generic music.
Yes Bieber is talented, but a few years doing the striving to become a signable talent would have probably made him more formidable.
All that Youtube discoveries are doing is allowing for a virtual mall for Tiffany 2.0 to play in.
