One other sort of funny story was my cousin played hockey for the Peterborough Petes with Steve Yzerman from 81-83 and even though I remember going to a few games in Windsor and London, I was really too young to know what was going on with him. Well a few years later the same cousin got married and my dad had his bachelor or stag party at our house. All the guys came over and went swimming in our pool earlier on in the day while my dad grilled out. I was spending the night at a friend's house but she and I were by my pool that day drooling over all of the shirtless hot guys. It think we were about 13 or 14 years old and boy crazy. Steve Yzerman was in the wedding party, and he was swimming in the pool and he was very sweet to us, telling us we were going to be real heartbreakers some day. We really had no idea who he was until my dad told me later and my friend and I told everyone in grade 8 and grade 9 that Steve Yzerman thought we were hot. LOL We embellished that for sure!
Also, I was huge into basketball and every summer I went to a camp up in Northern Ontario. Every year they had a different pro at the camp each week, and one year we had Charles Barkley for a week. (Philly days) I got to be his helper that week and I had a lot of fun goofing off with him, it was a really neat time. Years later, it's the first time I fly to Phoenix to meet my future in-laws. They are absolutely crazy for the Suns, watch every game, etc. We get in the elevator at the airport after meeting and who's in the elevator but Barkley. He had a floppy beach hat and was obviously trying to ignore people but he's pretty hard to ignore. My future mother in law elbows her husband and whispers 'THAT'S CHARLES BARKLEY OH MY GOD' and he looked at her and looked at me and looked and me again and said my name and gave me a hug! He remembered me. My in-laws told that story to everyone they knew, and I was IN with the family from that moment because Charles Barkley knew who I was. Not a hockey story but kind of cool nonetheless.
