So back in 2008 I was out in Halifax for the world Hockey Championships. One of my old mans good friends is the chiropractor for Team Canada, so when he heard we were heading out he managed to get us "family passes", so we were basically hanging out with the team all week. Couple stories:
- I went out partying with a bunch of the guys a couple nights and most of them were great. Spezza was a super nice guy. Nash, Burns and Green were machines, awesome guys to party with. The only one that I didn't like was Heatley. He was a bit of a dick.
- Toews was still pretty young (I think he just finished his first season) and was super quiet. Him and Gagner spent most of their time playing video games with all the other players kids.
- I have never really been star struck before, but at one point I took my little cousin up to the lounge to meet some of the players and get autographs. We are about to take the elevator down when the doors open and standing in the elevator is Steve Yzerman. Both of us just freeze. A couple awkward seconds pass and he smiles and asks if we're going down. We walk on and spend the next couple seconds just staring at him. He then starts talking to my little cousin, asking him if hes having a good time, who he met etc. Then signed his jersey and got off. I managed to say "Thanks Steve" as he got off. Smooth.
-Keenan was on our flight out and we stopped and talked to him for a bit. We asked why none of the Flames were playing, he said Regeher and Iggy were asked but both were having kids over the summer. He said Dion was asked too but "who knows what that kid is up to". Had a good laugh over that one.
