But reading some of the comments involving curry and common stereotypes like picking noses and not showering really makes me never want to go to Calgary because of how I may be viewed there.

Here's what you do. Start at the beginning of the thread and pick out all the "racist" posts. Now count how many different posters made those. Then count how many posters said non-racist things. You'll find the ratio about 1:10. For every racist poster there are about 10 who aren't.

Also, remember that this isn't a Calgary only forum. Probably 10-20% of the posters don't reside in Calgary.

What you are doing is being just as stereotypical. You are taking an unfortunate view that some easterners have which is to lump all Westerners as racist hicks.

Frankly I find your generalizations to be nearly as offensive as some of the things said in this thread, by a very, very small number of posters I might add.

And I do think that Western Canada has a higher than normal amount of racist hicks compared to the rest of the country. From my experience the highers percentage are in small rural towns throughout BC, AB, SK and Manitoba. I say that from first hand personal experience living in small rural towns. That doesn't mean I assume everyone who grew up on a farm and wears wranglers is a card carrying KKK member.

Your assertion, based on a few ignorant posts on a message board, that you'll get chased down the street by an angry racist mod is truly offensive to me.
