I also don't see how they could manage two releases with the FCC regulations and certification process around wireless devices. Just seems like too quick a turnaround for one country, let alone multiple.
If there is anything to the hunch/guess/rumor, I'm going to say you'll see another form factor, not a third iteration of the same product.
