I'm generally thinking that those deal-a-day websites are pretty bad for service companies. I was tempted to pick up this deal since I work in the NE, but then figured it would not be that great of a deal if a thousand people start trying to book the service at the same time.

For restaurants, I now only buy them for places that I already frequent. If I am going to try something new, I could just pick up an Entertainment coupon book and get the same deal (i.e. 50% off to a limit) without having to prepay the 50%.

I've heard a few stories where service levels drop for people that come in with a Groupon (or similar deal). It also isn't that great for the retailer, so I wonder how long these sites will last. Here is an interesting perspective from the Bob Phibbs.
