The idea behind the double-standard is to rectify some of the imbalance in opportunity that has resulted from these hundreds of generations of ultimately inhumane inequality.
If you're one of those people who believe that "equal opportunity exists now" and that such double-standards are examples of "reverse-racism" you're wrong. You don't have a valid point and should remove yourself from the conversation and read a book.

So to fix a wrong that occurred in the past, we should now victimize the whitey's?
Don't get me wrong, things like this don't really bug me so much, but the notion that we should just keep swinging the pendulum back and forth to try and "make right" what has happened previously rubs me the wrong way. Why not just flat out stop that pendulum? Any advantage or discrimination is noted, even if there is an underlying reason for it. This breeds frustration and anger until finally the group of people that are being marginalized feel that they deserve their time at the top. Maybe they do, but it is a never ending cycle once you go down this road.
I feel the same regarding native issues in canada quite frankly. There shouldn't be a continuous cycle of handouts and apologies. Do something substantial once, then treat them like everyone else is.
