Anfield is second to none. I took my wife, a Canadian, there on our first date. What an eyeopener that was for her. She loves Anfield so much that she finally got her way with my latest son having Anfield as a middle name.
I love Anfield too. It's a fantastic stadium and deserves to remain so.
The Kop is one of a kind. I'm so glad that John Henry realizes that too. It's a special place. I've seen LFC win titles while standing (STANDING) on the Kop. I remember Liverpool scoring and during the celebration surging down the terrace 15ft or so. It was incredible. I also remember the volume being so loud there that my ears were ringing for a day afterwards (seriously.) I have not witnessed an atmosphere like that anywhere else in the world and likely never will. When the Kop would belt out "YNWA" it would literally make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck, it was absolutely a religious experience.
Shankly used to say that playing in front of The Kop was like starting the match a goal up. It really was. It was like the fans were sucking the ball into the net. Sure, it's not quite the same now that it's seated but it's still very very good.
You need to experience this, Locke, and any other Liverpool fans that have yet to do so. I guarantee it will move you when singing our song. Put it this way I've stood and sat at that ground numerous times (I've lost count) but I cannot wait to get back there to watch the Reds again. It doesn't matter how many times you go there it's always very very special.
