The baby Ninja has a pop-off pillion seat. I wouldn't be surprised if someone makes a cool tailbag-type piece of luggage for it that just snaps into the seat locking mechanism.
Otherwise, nothing wrong with a good, old-fashioned tank bag. Get a magnetic one, straps suck. Personally, I don't like riding with a backpack. It's not a safety thing, it's more about comfort, if you have proper riding gear, your jacket is bulky enough as is.
I have a 46 litre pop-off Givi top box on my 1250 Bandit. Ugly? Yes. Kickass? You bet. When I also use the Givi panniers, I can cart one crapload of groceries.
