Try autocatch.com. It's similar to autotrader but better (IMO of course)

Ultimately, there will always be people out there trying to screw the buyer no matter where you go. Just make sure you test the car in every condition (city speeds, highway speeds, sudden braking, etc...) and listen for abnormal noises and you should be ok.
