The biggest thing I can offer is to haggle the heck out of whoever is selling the mattress. When I worked retail cost on a mattress was less than half of retail; that's the store's cost.

There will also some "half price" beds out there; the discounted price is pretty much retail; and then they put it on for double to be legally be able to call the "half price" a sale. When I worked retail we were told that if we ever sold on of the beds in our "half price" rotation when it wasn't on sale; we were not able to discount.

Shop around, work out deals, and then take those deals to another store. Spend your time- but also spend some money. A bed that retails for $1500 will give you so much better of a rest than one that retails for $800. Consider that you will spend 1/3 of your life on this bed; and that a good night sleep impacts the rest of your day.
