I happened to be watching Countdown last night and was shocked at the announcement. However, on further reflection it shouldn't be that surprising that Olbermann was removed considering he was such a loud and fervent voice against the very people that cut his pay cheques, namely big businesses thriving at the expense of the middle class. The timing of the Comcast merger certainly seems suspicious.

I agree that he'll land on his feet somewhere. Regardless of your political leanings it's hard to argue against his talent. He has a large enough following that he'll likely be able to choose between two or three offers for his next gig. However, it will be interesting to see if he chooses to work again for a large corporation or perhaps do something completely different.

I didn't always agree with his views or his rhetoric but I was always entertained and often informed watching his show.
