I'm finished with this discussion, but I really wish some of you people would educate yourselves on what constitutes the medical disease known as Alcoholism.
I'm seeing some pretty ignorant stuff in this thread. Not ignorant as in rude, ignorant as in uninformed. Especially the bit about how Alcoholism is somehow controllable. Uncontrollable is pretty much one of the primary characteristics of the disease.
I get the impression some of you think I'm of the opinion you should be arrested if you have a beer in your living room. That's about as far away from my argument as you can possibly get. We're talking about practicing Alcoholics. There are only 2 or 3 provinces in this country where doctors aren't required to report patients who exhibit medical signs of Alcoholism. Alberta happens to be one of them, yes, but we're in the minority. It is no different than reporting parents and children who show signs of family abuse.
