Wow. So, in a roundabout way they've effectively instituted a floating salary cap. Instead of a hard number its a percentage of profits relative to each team.

That being said though, the initial cost of the player regardless of when you bought him should be factored in when attempting to ascertain what the clubs' 'profits' are. I dont think you can just pick a date and consider that so long as the club held the player before this whatever his initial cost was is immaterial and determine that any consideration for him is to be allocated as profit. That would go against any and all financial principles under almost any system.

'Profit' is a pretty specific and well defined term. Revenue remaining after costs and expenses, you cant just ignore costs because their timing is inconvenient.

Then again, I'm rarely surprised when it comes to anything financially related in the world of soccer.
