Absolutely preach defensive awareness to T.J., but it should be secondary. There's room in the modern day NHL for roamers, and T.J. seems to be capable of developing into one.

I disagree. He's a defense man so it should be primary. If he wants to have any hope of being > 5th nhl defense man, he better be good at defense. Besides, if he's good at defense, he'll be able to use his roaming abilities better as if you don't have the puck, it's pretty hard to move it forwards.
