There's another twist to the new rules. If a team decides to pull off an onside kick to start overtime and they recover, the receiving team will have been considered to have their chance to possess the ball. That means if you pull off an onside kick and score (field goal or touchdown), the game is over.
I assume the same interpretation would apply if this was the kick post opening possession FG.

here's another scenario, though a bit far-fetched, could happen.
Say the Saints win an OT toss....go down and kick a field goal. They kick off to Seattle who returns it to the 30. On the first play Hasselback throws a pick over the middle and the Saints defender, instead of just taking a knee and ending the game, starts to run with it. He then gets hit and fumbles and it is recovered by Seattle.
Is the game over because the Hawks had their possesion but then lost it?
