There is no question he has done a superb job of turning Stanford around, but I dont know if i am investing THAT much into him at the pro level if i am an owner. The history of coaches making the jump from college to the pros is littered with failures...but the coaching game is so weird that way. He is definately the flavor of the day.

Holy, I'm agreeing with tranny on this one.
By no means do you offer that kind of coin to a college coach making the jump to the pro ranks. If he pulls a Nick Saban or...what's his name (coached the Falcons??)...then you are stuck paying a guy a boatload of money for nothing.
Word is they went after Cowher, but he wants full control and that would mean sacrificing Ireland in the process. But to go after a coach who has proven he can win and build a winning team seems like the smarter move in my eyes.
But what do I know, that's why I'm sitting on a forum rather than making decisions like this.
