I've got about 70GB of photos stored on my hard drive. I've backed up about 40 gigs on DVD's. This became a bit burdensome so I bought a 1TB Seagate external hard drive. Well after using it a couple times it stopped working (I believe the term is "bricked itself"). This has scared me away from using one of these external HD's for backup.

What are my best options for backing up files? I recently bought a 8GB USB flash drive for $10 bucks. Should I just buy a bunch of these and load my photos on them? I heard that flash drives are safer due to no rotating parts.

What about online storage? Is this a safe option? My fear having my data out of my hands, what if the storage company goes out of business or gets targeted by hackers?
