If I find anyone tailgating me, the first thing I will do is apply some firm but quick pressure to my brakes. If that doesn't cause you to stop, I will immediately begin to slow down...right lane or left lane. Stay a reasonable distance from my rear bumper and we'll all get along fine.
You tailgating me will not cause me to go faster...regardless of the circumstances. And it is one of the most unsafe (sober) driving practices there is.

While i agree it is unsafe... move out of the effing way if you feel it is that unsafe. Take yourself out of the danger instead of increasing it.
