It's just part of your taxable income. The only reason they would take a larger chunk of it than your regular paycheque amount is because the government tries to estimate how much taxes you owe when they deduct taxes from your pay. When they see a bonus cheque, it's treated like regular income, so in their system, it seems like you're getting paid a lot per paycheque, so they deduct the suitable amount for someone making your bonus amount as a regular paycheque.
You get it back if you've paid too much tax on it once you file your taxes.
