My current work place has a nice Christmas dinner and awards/recognition ceremony that includes the staff and board members.
When I worked at Canadian Tire it was just one big boozefest. Oh the things that go on at those parties. I only went to one, it was enough to last a lifetime. People were rowdy and, in general, idiots. One of the managers punched out his wife. Some 22 year old tested the suspension on his truck with some 16 year old chick and it was somewhere around -30 outside... morons. A fight broke out between some of our staff and the staff of some grocery store who was having their Christmas party at the hall next door. Nobody lost their jobs, but a few people lost a lot of respect and dignity.
