The US side is a very quiet natual state park, and I love it there. It's 180 degrees from what you see on the Canadian side, and you can get up close and personal on the "under the falls" tours, unlike on the Canadian side.

That being said, NF, NY is a dump and home to a large proportion of the US EPA's superfund sites.
You can get an 'under the falls' tour on the Canadian side. In fact, last Christmas I took some American friends 'home' and we took the tour (first time I had bothered to do it). It's pretty cool.
