They're pulling away now. Patriots are winning more Super Bowls than the Yankees are winning World Series.
I think both systems work for the respective sports. Neither is better than the other.
NFL is a team game, with systems, coordinators, schemes etccc.. so a team environment when on an even playing field works for that sport.
Baseball is a game of individuals, batter versus pitcher. So not sure a salary cap would work as the teams get diluted and you see unknown against unknown too much. I think baseball wants super teams and super matchups. Didn't everyone get excited when Lincecum and Halliday faced off twice in the NLCS? Parity prevents such matchups.
