Despite a four-game winning streak, the Colorado Avalanche pulled the trigger on a deal that brings some veteran leadership to Denver.
It's been no secret that Kyle McLaren hasn't been happy in Colorado and has been on the trading block for some time. He, along with prospect Andrew Ladd and a second round pick were packaged and sent to Atlanta for Sillinger, Andreychuk, Baron and Christensen.
"Our scouts have been blown away with the skill shown by the young Erik Christensen," said Avs GM James Menzies. "While we were reluctant to trade Andrew Ladd, we felt we were getting an equally skilled prospect back. Andreychuk, Sillinger and Baron all add experience and will be able to step in and make an immediate contribution here in Colorado. We will be calling upon them to help this organization continue its charge towards a playoff spot."
While the trade adds some depth to the Avs lineup up front, there's no denying the team will miss McLaren's defensive skills. Menzies may not be done yet...stay tuned.
