Peameal bacon, yes it is delicious and seems to be most commonly found in southern Ontario. My mom is from a small town in southern Ontario and she has always pronounced it as though it rhymes with "female" thus I can understand the confusion.

I could be wrong but I think it is technically what Americans term "Canadian bacon" as opposed to standard strip bacon. Although Americans now tend to call all bacon "Canadian bacon" when putting it on pizzas, etc to make it sound more gourmet.
