I really think the writers were severely limited by budget as evidenced by the ridiculously short 6 episodes. Hopefully they incorporate some of the depth mentioned in the article with more money.

I am all caught up on the comic series and it is one of the best reads you can get out of a series in graphic form.
Comparing the TV show with the comic, very little action is similar. They leave the quary/forest area just outside Atlanta in 2 comics after Rick catches up with his family. Clearly the 6 episodes are to extend the storyline. Not to mention the particulars are different. Knowledge about zombies don't really come around till about issue 35 or so. NOT the first season. The CDC didn't happen as well so that is new. It was a storyline "hope" but that was about it.
I was meh on the finale. I get that it means nobody has a clue about what's happening... Except the french. But why got immediately to this storyline!
Anyway, I'll still be watching next year as this creative step in TV is what I would like to see, so I will continue to support it.
Thanks AMC.
PS I so don't want to talk about details and differences too much because I don't want to be a spoiler... Read the comic!
