As mentioned above, looking at the artwork, especially done by local artists, is great. The Expo releases a book each year with one picture around a central theme done by each artist, and you can go around and have them sign their work in the book.
Because we just had a baby a couple of months back, my wife and I found some unique pieces for the nursery.
The costumes are fun to check out as well, and if you're into people-watching, you'd find it fascinating. Let me say this - once you go to a Comic Expo, you'll believe that the Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons is real.
