An interesting tidbit that relates to Visa and Mastercard shutting down donations to WikiLeaks because it is "illegal" (along with the stuff I mentioned on the other page):

The US lobbied Russia this year on behalf of Visa and MasterCard in an attempt to ensure the payment companies were not "adversely affected" by new legislation
