I think there's a very serious chance another guy is in the picture. She sounds like she's finding excuses not to get more serious with you, which makes another guy more likely. She's hot and cold with her feelings for you, which is indicative of an outside force (another guy) affecting those feelings. If she was dumped recently, it's all but a guarantee.
It's possible that she's really family and school oriented and her excuses are entirely legitimate, however. I've met girls like that.
