I would have to disagree on most of your points. Of course some of the acting was suspect... This is a cable TV show, if you want top notch acting from all the cast go to an indie movie festival. I thought one of the biggest points of the finale was how they included the flashback to the hospital and showed Shane literally putting his butt on the line to save Rick, who was his best friend. They show him hiding from the military and walkers, and it's up for interpretation wheither he actually did or didn't hear a heart beat... Begs the further question of why, then did he block the room if he didnt?
I felt that this directly tied into the group dynamic. Rick's wife feels betrayed and used by Shane because she based her decisions on Shane's information that he [Rick] was dead. By showing this flashback it somewhat vindicates Shane [maybe not quite as we thought] for believing that Rick was dead. So, after the last episode it's pretty much clear that this whole situation is a time bomb waiting to explode, especially because Rick and Shane are naturally foiled against each other for: leader, alpha male, husband and father, which is made worse since Shane was all of these things before Rick returned.
I think the CDC symbolized alot more than just "hey- lets find another place to hide, oh #### we have to leave." The CDC was a major government institution, which, if any besides perhaps NORAD would survive, would be it. By going there they find out that society and government really has completely broken down. There is no rescue, there is no help, there is no cure... It really is up to you to forge out your own survival, and perhaps your worst enemy is not the walkers, but the lack of goods and supplies to survive, which is turning the surviving humans against each other. The theme that appears to be followed is that cornered humans are the worst of all, and that the people in the group are actually the walking dead.
But hey, most of this stuff was made abundantly clear, so far. If you haven't picked up on this stuff so far perhaps this series isn't for you.
