I only brought up the Flames because I think it is kind of sad that the Flames raised $68k. Let's keep in mind that is not money donated by the players, that is raised by them, simply by growing a stache.
Now that is great that cancer research has $68k that they didn't have before, but lets be realistic here. It is peanuts to them. They could have each donated $68k. Instead they get others to do the donating while they grow mustaches. It reminds me of the celebrity telethons for Katrina and such. All these filthy rich people telling middle america to donate their money. Ummm, it should be the rich jerks donating, not the middle class. But I digress, that is a whole other discussion.

Everyone I knew that grew a stache (myself included) raised at least $200. I also personally donated to the cause.
Although I cannot prove your 80% statistic, I am very confident that the number of people that grew a stache and raised money is much higher than the number of people that changed their FB picture and raised money (or, by extension, same with the # of people that posted their bra color or the location of their purse).
However, as I posted earlier, I'm young, and I currently have no personal passion towards helping prostate cancer. Whether or not my lack of caring outside of Movember about prostate cancer is slacktivism is another story.
