Am I missing something?
I have no doubt that's hard to merge onto the road. But as a pedestrian I don't really care if you get home 2 minutes earlier when I have to leave a shoveled side walk and walk on an icy sloped curb mess and try not slip and crack my skull open.

Maybe don't block the sidewalk? I don't know. Where I walk if a car pulls out of a parking garage and blocks the sidewalk. I can't walk behind them (I could if it's an alley) there is no room, so I have to walk in front of them on the road. If there is an obvious gap in traffic I will wait for them to merge. But I am not going to stop outside in the cold winter weather while you wait for a gap in your heated vehicle.
