KINGS-ISLES BATTLE TO 1-1 DRAW

Jocelyn Thibault turns aside a shot in the third period in Saturday's 1-1 tie between the Islanders and the Kings.

LOS ANGELES - Jocelyn Thibault made 25 saves and Martin Prusek answered with 35 of his own as the Los Angeles Kings and the New York Islanders played to a 1-1 tie.

Referee Don Koharski gave the Islanders nine opportunities on the powerplay, but it wasn't until the 9:41 mark of the third period when the Islanders were finally able to solve Martin Prusek who started in goal for the Kings in place of an injured Dan Cloutier.

Prusek, who has seen limited action so far this season, made the most of his 7th start of the season facing 36 shots in total, stopping all but one en route to a 1-1 draw with the visitors, earning him first star honours for the night.

At the other end of the ice, Jocelyn Thibault made his 6th straight start stopping 25 of the 26 shots he faced including an acrobatic blocker save off Marion Gaborik in the dying seconds of the third period to preserve the tie and send both teams to an extra overtime period.

The Islanders would dominate the extra frame outshooting the Kings by a 4-0 margin, but were once again unable to solve Martin Prusek sending both teams home with a single point.

Game Notes - Mark Parrish led all Islanders with 7 shots on net and was the lone Islander to beat Martin Prusek on the night... The Islanders powerplay went 1 for 9 on the night... Jordan Leopold continues to be the leader in icetime playing over 32 minutes on Saturday.
