I boycott watching these things, not because I think there is a valid "popular / commercial music" versus "cool / good music" division that is being flaunted and violated by these shows. In fact, I get bored reading people who say they don't like "popular" music, as if that's some type of valid critique or dog whistle to people with real music taste.

Music is about a personal connection. No referendum of strangers will ever substitute for personal taste.
