According to the NY Daily News the Yankees and Derek Jeter are $105 million apart. The Yankees have offered Jeter $45 million over three years. Jeter and his agent are rumored to be asking $150 million over six years and that they are not budging on $25 million per year.
$25 million per year is, surprise, surprise, exactly what A-Rod gets paid. Now when A-Rod signed his $275 million contract, he was coming off a year when he hit 56 home runs knocking in 156 runs at the age of 32. At the time it had not yet been revealed that he was a steroid cheat. Jeter on the other hand turns 37 next season and is coming off a season when he hit 40 points below his career batting average. His OPS also dropped 161 points to a career low of .710.
Jeter has been paid $200 million by the Yankees so far. If you add the $45 million the Yankees are offering he will have made $245 million, or the 2nd most amount in baseball history next to A-Rod.
