they're great for everything. I said mp3/ipod specifically because you can get some DJ headphones that if you amplify them may sound better.
also, the noise cancellation is top notch. a friend of mine at work is a headphone/audiophile and he says its the best noise cancelling he's heard yet.
dont listen to the snotty headphone enthusiasts online who hate on monster. yes they are over priced but they're the best sound you can get frankly
also as an added bonus for iphones and other devices the dre's double as a headset. that makes them so amazing. i was on the train one morning listening to music and dialed up safari to find the # for stoney mazda, called them, and while talking to lady setup an appoinment while inputting into my calender. hung up and music comes back right away. amazing stuff, to me.
