I think a dry moat would work, depending on how many zombies were coming after you.

If you were out in the country, use a backhoe to build a 10 foot wide, 12 foot deep moat all the way around your farm yard. Any straggling zombies trying to come and get you, would just fall in. Every morning you could go around the edge of the moat and light on fire any zombies that you find in it.

In a populated area where there could be huge hordes of them at once, it probably wouldn't work for long......and that's assuming you have time to dig it, even with heavy equipment.

or just tanks, that's the part that bugs me the most about zombie movies, The Walking Dead included. in the first episode the main guy comes across a seemingly fully functional tank in the middle of the street with a zombie soldier inside. how did he get bitten sitting inside a godamn tank? why did it stop in the middle of the street? would zombies really put up that much resistance against a 5-ton chunk of steel on treads?
Exactly. He was in the tank, trying to find a way out.

He should have been trying to figure out how start the sucker up, and drive it!!
