The core part about religion is the social outlet it provides most people and they will show allegiance to any beliefs that allow them to maintain this outlet. So when questioned about these beliefs they waffle and say "what are you getting so worked up about?" The belief is not the primary function of their religion.

So Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins are misguided in their attempts to fight religion in that they think people actually hold to these beliefs strongly, instead of realizing that people use religion as a way to identify with a group and form a social network (tribalism, if you will). Showing off graphs about the inconsistencies in the Bible isn't going to change anyone. An "us v. them" strategy will only cause them to entrench farther against reason.
So your saying religion is simply a "social"? Further you are suggesting that the social dynamic of man cannot be fulfilled without religion?
